Privacy policy

Draft for legal review. This policy has been drafted to reflect how this website actually operates today, but it has not been reviewed by a solicitor. Have it checked before relying on it, and confirm the ICO registration number and contact inbox before publishing anything that depends on them.

1. Who we are

McLeod Media Limited is a company registered in Scotland, company number SC877714, with its registered office at Clyde Offices, 2nd Floor, 48 West George Street, Glasgow, Scotland, G2 1BP. Salary Genius (salarygenius.com) is a project of McLeod Media Limited. In this policy “we”, “us” and “our” mean McLeod Media Limited.

We are the data controller for personal data collected through this website. Our ICO registration number is [ICO NUMBER TO BE ADDED]. You can reach us about anything in this policy at privacy@salarygenius.com.

2. What we collect

Salary Genius is currently a private beta. This website does not yet let you connect a bank account, upload a statement, or create an account, so we don't collect any household financial data through it. What we do collect is limited to ordinary website activity:

Essential cookies run the site and are always on. Analytics cookies only load once you have agreed. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer, or the button below.

6. Who we share it with

We use a small number of processors to run this website. Each acts on our instructions under a written agreement.

We may also disclose data where we are required to by law, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.

7. How long we keep it

Website analytics data is retained for no longer than 26 months. Enquiry emails are kept for as long as reasonably needed to deal with the matter raised, and then deleted.

8. Security

Access to our systems is protected by strong unique passwords and two-factor authentication where available, and is limited to those who need it. No system is perfect, but if a breach were to put your rights at risk we would report it to the ICO within 72 hours and tell you where required.

9. Your rights

You have the right to be informed, to access your data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. To exercise any of these, email privacy@salarygenius.com. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you raised it with us first so we can put it right.

10. Children

This site is aimed at adults managing household finances. We do not knowingly collect data about anyone under 18.

11. The product itself

Once Salary Genius opens beyond private beta and you can connect a bank account or upload statements, that processing — including how we use open banking access, how long transaction data is kept, and how figures like your household spending and required salary are calculated and stored — will be covered by an updated version of this policy, published before that feature goes live.

12. Changes

We will update this policy when our practices change. The version number and date at the top will change with it, and material changes will be flagged on the site.
